Winterburn scores her 1000th WBBL Championship point as Lions defeat Riders

WBBL Championship
London Lions 85-53 Leicester Riders (22-16, 44-33, 57-48, 85-53)
(Lions: H.Winterburn – 21, C.Breen – 14, S.Beckford-Norton – 11; Riders: C.Jennings – 16, B.McAlear – 13, A.Lappenkuper – 10)

London Lions guard Holly Winterburn joined the 1000 points club in the WBBL Championship this afternoon, as she helped her side to an impressive victory over her former team Leicester Riders – who she scored her first 958 points for.

Winterburn also dropped a game-high of 21 points as well as picking up six assists, but her efforts on defence were equally as brilliant as she made a huge five steals for her team.

Forward Cassie Breen was also an effective weapon for the Lions, as she contributed 14 points off the bench in just 20 minutes, while Kennedy Leonard dropped a brilliant double-double of 11 points and 13 assists.

Leicester can take some positives out of the match however, including Chelsea Jennings’ team-high tally of 16 points, despite starting from the bench for her team.

Meanwhile, Riders duo Oceana Hamilton and Makana Stone led the game in rebounds with 14 and 12 respectively, but their efforts were in vein as the Lions’ strength in depth proved too much for Leicester.
